There are many lovely restaurants in the village where you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch, with spectacular views of the bay.
For a truly unique experience we recommend a picnic lunch on the rocks to savour till sunset, as you watch the whales playing in the bay. There are private braai facilities for that South African
flavour; and if you've never braaied before we'll show you how.
For dinner head off to the village and a homey yet vibey atmosphere. You'll be spoilt for choice with the many lovely restaurants, and if you love wine you can treat yourself to some of the world famous wines produced in the
Overberg and surrounding regions.
Hermanus is of course famous as one of the best land-based whale watching sites in the world. Between June and December every year the Southern Rights Whales arrive in Hermanus to mate, calve and nurse in the
warm, shallow waters of the bay. In honour of these magnificent creatures Hermanus hosts an annual Whale Festival,
offering a wide range of events, from contemporary music, comedy and cabaret to choral music, African rhythms and poetry recitals.
Other fun activities in Hermanus include wine tasting, cliff path walks and picnics, golfing, visiting art galleries, hiking and bird watching.
For the more adventurous you can experience the whales from a kayak in the bay where they sometimes breach right next to you, or you can view them from the air.
Paragliding off the top of the mountains on Rotary Way or shark cage diving trips are other activities available to adrenaline junkies.
